SUNRISE MAN SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT

Police in Sunrise responded to a complaint in the early hours of Monday, 23 December 2024, regarding a suspicious person inside the Transnet yard carrying a large bag.

Upon arrival, police found a man in possession of electronic and industrial equipment, including handcuffs. The items were positively identified as property belonging to Transnet.

The suspect was arrested and made several court appearances until the finalisation of the case. On Monday, 24 November 2025, the De Aar Regional Court convicted and sentenced 30-year-old Wayne Pieterse Booysen to eight years of direct imprisonment.

The Pixley ka Seme District Police Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended Detective Constable Barend Dou of the Sunrise Detectives for his diligent investigative work, which ensured the successful conviction and incarceration of the accused for a crime against the state.

Major General Mtukushe also thanked community members for reporting suspicious activities and urged the public to continue working with the police by reporting criminal activities via the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App. All reported information will be treated as confidential.
