Detective Constable Leonie Isaac of the De Aar Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit conducted a meticulous investigation that has resulted in the conviction of a 25-year-old male for rape and a 15-year prison sentence.
That is after a 30-year-old victim from Britstown recalls and reported that at approximately 3:00AM on Saturday, 25 May 2024, she was walking home when she encountered the accused.
The accused asked her to accompany him to another location to continue socialising, which she refused.
The accused became aggressive and dragged her to a railway station, where he undressed and raped her before fleeing the scene.
She immediately went to the Britstown police station where she opened a rape case and subsequently, the investigation was assigned to Detective Constable Isaac.
The matter proceeded to the De Aar Regional Court on Friday, 25 September 2026 where he got sentenced for his crime.
The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be registered in the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
District Commissioner of Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended Detective Constable Isaac for her diligent investigative work, which ensured that the suspect was successfully linked to the crime and brought before court.
The SAPS in the Northern Cape remain committed to the Reset Agenda, a renewal programme aimed at restoring professionalism, accountability, ethical leadership, integrity, discipline, respect for the rule of law, consequence management and public confidence.
This will assist the police service in the province to combat gender-based violence and femicide through diligent investigations, victim-centred policing and decisive action against perpetrators.
