The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Northern Cape honoured members of the Pixley ka Seme District for their years of loyal and dedicated service during a Loyal Service Medal Parade held in the district today at the Marino Stadium in De Aar.
Officiated by Major General Luntu Ngubelanga, Acting Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, accompanied by the Pixley ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, the Loyal Service Medals recognise SAPS members who have completed 10, 20 and 30 years of dedicated service.
The occasion provided an opportunity to acknowledge the commitment, sacrifices and contribution of members who have devoted significant periods of their careers to serving and protecting the people of South Africa.
The ceremony was attended by the Pixley Ka-Seme District Chief Whip, Councillor K Gouws, the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Johnny Besnaar, District Commissioners, Provincial Heads, Station Commanders, representatives from the 97 Army Depot, the District Community Policing Forum, SAPS members, family members and other distinguished guests.
The medal recipients, who are attached to various police stations and units throughout the Pixley ka Seme District, were joined by their families and colleagues as they celebrated these important milestones in their policing careers.
The programme commenced with a scripture reading and prayer led by Chaplain VS Mzangwa, followed by a welcoming address delivered by Major General Besnaar.
Delivering the keynote address, Major General Ngubelanga congratulated the medal recipients and emphasised the significance of recognising members who have dedicated many years of their lives to protecting communities, enforcing the law and contributing to the creation of a safer South Africa.
He acknowledged that loyal service in the SAPS requires resilience, sacrifice, discipline and an unwavering commitment to the organisation’s mandate.
Major General Ngubelanga further called on the medal recipients and all SAPS members present to realign their focus with the objectives of the SAPS Reset Agenda, which places renewed emphasis on discipline, professionalism, ethical conduct, accountability and integrity.
He encouraged the recipients to continue serving with pride and humility, while remaining committed to the highest standards of professionalism and to the constitutional mandate of the SAPS.
“Years of service are not merely measured by time, but by the difference that members make in the lives of the communities they serve. Your commitment and sacrifices are acknowledged and appreciated. I urge you to continue serving with renewed determination, integrity and pride,” said Major General Ngubelanga.
As the SAPS prepares for the Safer Festive Season operations and beyond, Major General Ngubelanga reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening police visibility and ensuring that more members are deployed where they are needed most.
He emphasised that increased police visibility, effective crime prevention and responsive policing remain key priorities in ensuring the safety and security of communities across the Northern Cape.
The formal proceedings were complemented by a ceremonial drill parade commanded by Captain JS Mosia and supported by the Northern Cape Provincial Band. The parade concluded with a ceremonial march-past, providing a fitting tribute to the medal recipients and marking the conclusion of the commemorative proceedings.
The Pixley ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Mtukushe, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed appreciation to the dignitaries, organising committee, participants, families and guests whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the ceremony.
SAPS congratulates all the medal recipients on this significant achievement and acknowledges their years of loyal service to the organisation and the communities of the Northern Cape. Their dedication serves as a reminder that effective policing is built on commitment, discipline, professionalism, integrity and service to the community.
The SAPS remains committed to recognising and supporting members who uphold these values and contribute towards strengthening public confidence and trust in the police.
