GBVF MURDER ACCUSED CONVICTED IN PHILIPSTOWN REGIONAL COURT
Kimberley, 22 September 2025 – The South African Police Service in the Northern Cape remains steadfast in its commitment to policing and investigating crimes against women and children and vulnerable groups.
On Friday, 27 December 2024, police in Philipstown responded to a complaint and discovered the body of a 32-year-old female, Roseline Fillies, inside her home in Philipvale, Philipstown.
Preliminary investigations revealed that she had been fatally stabbed by her boyfriend.
The accused, Edward Van Rooi (25), was arrested shortly thereafter. Bail was successfully opposed, and he remained in custody until the conclusion of the trial.
On Thursday, 18 September 2025, the Philipstown Regional Court convicted Van Rooi of murder and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The Pixley Ka Seme District Commissioner, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended Detective Sergeant Zwelandile Nolusu of the Philipstown Detectives for his meticulous investigation, which ensured justice for the family of the deceased and the removal of a dangerous perpetrator from society. End
