Saps Namakwa Sutherland Accused Sentecnced to 8 Years Imprisonment

The Management of Namakwa District welcomed the outcome of a recent court case in Sutherland, commending the collaborative efforts of the investigation officer and the Prosecution team in ensuring justice was served. On Thursday, 20 November 2025, the Regional Court sentenced 27 year old Dominic “Dompas” Jansen, to 10 years’ imprisonment for murder, of which 2 years was suspended. And was declared unfit to possess a firearm. The Court heard that on 6 April 2024, the accused was residing at the home of the victim. While under the influence of alcohol, Jansen engaged in a physical altercation with the victim and severely assaulted him. He then attempted to flee the scene in the victim’s vehicle, but overturned the vehicle and was arrested immediately by police on the scene. The victim was hospitalised after the assault but sadly succumbed eight days later due to the injuries sustained in the attack. The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Klein of the Sutherland Detective Branch was commenced for the meticulous investigation of the case. The collaboration between Warrant Officer Elton Klein and the State Prosecutor, Mr Darryl Bromkamp was commended resulting in justice being served and bringing closure to the family of the deceased.
