The spirit of Christmas came alive in the small community of Nieuwoudtville as children were treated to a special day filled with joy, laughter and meaningful messages during a Child Protection Programme hosted by Nieuwoudtville SAPS, in partnership with Kabouterland and the Youth Against Crime structure.
The programme, held at Nieuwoudtville Primary School on Sunday, 26 July 2026, formed part of the Christmas in July initiative and provided an opportunity for the community to come together in support of its youngest and most precious members.
Beyond the festive celebrations, the programme sought to raise awareness about child protection, encourage positive values among children and strengthen the bonds between the police, schools, community structures, youth organisations and families.
The proceedings were led by Pastor Nas Basson of the Full Gospel Church in Nieuwoudtville, who also serves as the leader of the Spiritual Crime Prevention Structure.
Sergeant Xavier Kotze of Nieuwoudtville SAPS introduced members of the Youth Against Crime structure, who captivated the children with a role-play depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, Wilco Kotze and Haylon Oktober shared an inspiring message and poem reflecting on the birth of Christ. The children’s excitement reached its peak when Mr F. Blom made a special appearance as Father Christmas, bringing smiles and laughter to the young faces.
Miss Jo-Ann Tromp, Secretary of the Community Policing Forum (CPF), also participated in the role-play and delivered the vote of thanks. She expressed appreciation to all the organisers, role players, volunteers and community members whose dedication and support contributed to making the event a memorable experience for the children.
The Christmas in July celebration was a reminder that protecting children is a shared responsibility. Through strong partnerships and meaningful community involvement, Nieuwoudtville SAPS and its partners continue to create opportunities where children can feel valued, supported and safe.
The South African Police Service in Namakwa remains committed to working alongside community structures, schools, youth organisations and other stakeholders to promote child protection and nurture safe, caring and positive environments where children can grow, learn and thrive.
