Kimberley is shocked by the brutal murder of a 72-year-old granny, Nozipho Soyingwa, who died in hospital after being collected by an ambulance from the suspect’s home.
It was reported that Soyingwa’s throat was slit and she had several stab wounds on the head, face and neck when she was found at the alleged attacker’s home in Malunga Street on Saturday, 01 August 2026.
She was well known in Galeshewe as a recycler and loved and tolerated by many people.
The Galeshewe police are investigating a case of murder and have arrested a 43-year-old male suspect known as Jalopi Mooketsi.
The suspect made a brief appearance at the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court and will re-appear on 19 August.
The suspect was cornered by Crime Fighting Operation Wanya Tsotsi, who handed him over to the police three days later.
Family members state that they were called to the suspect’s house and found the deceased lying on the ground.
“The suspect was standing there staring, constantly sipping from a beer bottle on his hand.”
The family applauds the Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital for fighting to save Soyingwa’s life.
“We could see a group of doctors and nurses doing everything in their power to help our grandmother. She was bleeding profusely from the cut under her neck, but they lost the battle.
Wanya Tsotsi leader Pantsi Obusitse said they knew the suspect, and he was known to the police because he was previously handed to the police for murder.
It is believed that he was released from prison a few months ago.
Obusitse said they had previously handed the suspect to the police after the community assaulted him for a murder.
“About three years ago, he was assaulted by members of the community for a murder that he committed, but was saved by the police by taking him to hospital,” explained Obusitse.
“This time no one laid a hand on him and we will allow the law to take its own course.
We started searching for him regardless of our limited resources and manpower.
It is known that the community fears him ,” he continued.
“It is unfortunate that we could not arrive on time to save the granny.”
Obusitse called on the community to unite in assisting the police to grant justice to the family.
Nozipho Soyingwa will be buried on Saturday, 15 August 2025.
