Kimberley is set to Ignite as Africa’s Street Culture Capital, with a Golden Ticket to Russia.  For the first time in South African soil, the global street culture phenomenon KARDO International is touching down in Kimberley on 15 August 2026, at Kimberley Skate Park, The Heart of South African Skateboarding. The Pre-event will feature a DJ Masterclass by the legendary DJ Ready D.

The Department of Economic Development and Tourism, through the legendary Diamonds and Dorings Kimberley Diamond Cup (KDC), is proud to announce the inaugural KARDO SOUTH AFRICA STAGE, a high-energy collision of sport, sound, art and style that will send three South African champions to the world stage in Russia.

“The arrival of KARDO International in the Northern Cape is a defining moment for our province. It demonstrates that Kimberley is not only the home of the Kimberley Diamond Cup but also an emerging global destination for youth culture, action sports and creative industries. Through this partnership, we are creating opportunities for young people to showcase their talent on an international stage while stimulating tourism, local enterprise development and economic growth,” said MEC Blennies Magage.

“This is more than an event. This is where local legends become global icons. South Africa will now have a voice where 147 countries and 225,000 of the world’s best street athletes and artists converge,” added Magage.

There will be three champions fusing adventure, tourism and creativity.  Winners will be participating in skateboarding, DJing and Graffiti.  They will claim national glory, a share of R200,000 in prize money and an all-expenses-paid trip to represent South Africa at the prestigious KARDO Awards in Stavropol, Russia from 16 to 20 September 2026.

Leveraging the world-class legacy of the Kimberley Diamond Cup and the province’s established skateboarding infrastructure, this partnership positions the Northern Cape as Africa’s Leading Destination for Street Culture, Creative Industries and Action Sports.

“This is about more than trophies. It is about talent discovery, global opportunity, youth leadership, tourism growth, and a creative economy. We are building bridges from the streets of Kimberley to the world, empowering athletes, artists, local businesses and communities to own the global stage,” added the MEC.
