Congratulations to Mojalefa Maarman for obtaining the Rover Wood Badge.  The Chairperson of the Training Team from Scouts SA, 78-year-old John Cedani aka “Mr C”, bestowed the accolade during the BP Camp held at Isago Primary School last weekend.

The Wood Badge is a globally recognised award bestowed upon a candidate who meets all the requirements performed over a period of 6 to 18 months.  It is a training and leadership program for adult Scout leaders, accredited to train a designated age group.

The 23-year-old Maarman was eventually relieved to reap the rewards of his hard work.  “I have been waiting for this since September last year. It is a prestigious award that comes with daunting and hard work.  I had to perform and submit proof of the tasks every month”, he said.

Maarman is training and leading Rovers (adults) aged 18 to 35 years.

He indicated that leading people older than him is difficult. “It comes with patience; you have to endure and know that you are leading people who are older than you.  You must do your job and show them their wrongs and rights”, he remarked.

Maarman joined the Scouts at the age of six, becoming the first in the family to join the movement, later followed by the younger sister Tshegofatso Maarman, who recently received the Impala Badge – another prestigious award in the Maarman household.  Lastly, their father, who is the Scouts Regional Commissioner in the Northern Cape, Luckyboy Maarman followed suit.

The BP Camp was attended by more than 200 Scouters and Girl Guides from Kimberley, Postmansburg, Mmabatho, Bloemfontein and Kuruman to commemorate 75 years of the death of Robert Biden-Powell founder of the Scouts Movement.
