Kuruman celebrates the launch of locally published books

Boipelo Mere

Proud Authors from communities within the Ga-Segonyana Local Municipality received their well-deserved toast when SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT), in partnership with the Marang Career and Information Centre, successfully launched seven of their books at Kuruman Lodge on Saturday, 22 November 2025.
More than 80 guests attended the launch, including the SIOC-CDT Community Trustees, Exco Members, officials, representatives of the Marang Career and Information Centre, local book clubs and family members.
The event celebrated the achievements of seven authors, members of the Marang Book Club, who the National Arts Council recognises for their contributions to developing writers and promoting a culture of reading in local communities.
Through the SIOC-CDT Community Discretionary Fund Programme, the full publishing of all seven books has been funded, with each author receiving 50 complimentary copies of their published book.
Among the authors, two have published before, while five are releasing their first book.
Marang Career and Information Centre continues to support community development through career guidance, youth development, social awareness initiatives, and book-reading programmes. The organisation is also part of the local NGO capacitation programme, implementing the SIOC-CDT Karabelo GBVF Programme.
