MEC Vass Hand Over Houses To Moreof The Beneficiaries Of The Calvinia 200 Housing Project.

The MEC for the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) in the Northern Cape, Bentley Vass handed over 15 houses to some of the beneficiaries of the Calvinia 200 Housing Project, in the Hantam Local Municipality Namakwa District earlier this week.
The Calvinia 200 Housing Project is part of the 1 Billion Rand Housing Project, launched in January 2024, by President Cyril Ramaphosa and Premier, Dr. Zamani Saul, as part of efforts to address the housing backlog of the Northern Cape.
The project came about as part of the Northern Cape Provincial Government’s  committment to eradicating the province’s housing backlog by building houses in all the Districts.
Vass was accompanied by the Executive Mayor of the Namakwa District Municipality, Mervin Cloete, the Mayor of the Hantam Municipality, Koos Alexander and other Councillors of the two municipalities.
The houses have been handed over in batches following the first batch of 15 houses earlier this year in March.
Vass, said the houses will continue to be handed to the beneficiaries as they reach completion from project to project.
Emphasizing on zero tolerance for delays by the contractors to deliver, Vass said the department has already issued warning signs.
’We are happy to be able to hand over keys to fifteen families in this municipality.
“We are  also aware of slow progress in some of the projects in the different districts.
“We have also moved swiftly to terminate some of the contractors who are not performing optimally despite several interventions and assistance by the Department,” said Vass.
