The ongoing execution of Operation Vala Umgodi in the Frances Baard District led to the arrested four suspects on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
The team conducted observation duties at identified mining hotspot areas in Kimberley.
During the continuation of the observation, the team observed men who were actively engaged in alleged illegal mining activities.
The three men, who are between the ages of 47 and 59-years-old were arrested for illegal mining and trespassing.
The equipment and tools found in their possession believed to have been utilised in the commission of illegal mining activities were confiscated.
Additionally, the team conducted routine vehicle patrols and stop and search actions around the mining hotspot areas.
This led to the arrest of a 39-year-old suspect for Contravention of the Immigration Act.
All the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
The Operation Vala Umgodi Illicit Mining team remains committed in the fight against illicit mining in the Northern Cape.
