PETRUSVILLE MAN SENTENCED FOR THE MURDER OF A 13-YEAR-OLD BOY

Police in Petrusville were alerted on Monday, 26 May 2025, at approximately 10:00, by a passer-by to the body of a minor lying in a field next to the Kalkfontein gravel road.

Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the body of a 13-year-old boy in the veld, with a stab wound to the chest. The deceased was later identified as Dion Rudy Bezuidenhoudt.

A thorough police investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect, Chris Blaauw. Police successfully opposed bail, and the accused remained in custody throughout the court proceedings.

On Monday, 8 December 2025, Blaauw pleaded guilty in the De Aar Regional Court. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 20 years’ direct imprisonment for murder.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, reiterated that law enforcement agencies will not turn a blind eye to crimes committed against the most vulnerable members of society. She commended Detective Constable Jessica Julie of the Petrusville Detectives for her swift and thorough investigation, as well as the prosecutorially guided investigation that ensured the accused was removed from society for a considerable period.
