Sutherland Court Sentenced Liar to 20years Imprisonment
On Sunday, 11 October 2020, Sutherland police responded to a complaint at Ekkraal Farm in the Sutherland district, where it was reported that a woman had died.
Upon arrival at the farmhouse, they were met by the accused who showed them the body of his wife, lying on the bed with no signs of life.
Faro informed the members that she had allegedly fallen.
However, the members observed blood on Faro’s jacket and also noticed a mop with what appeared to be blood at the scene.
Other individuals on the farm were seemingly intoxicated at the time.
The matter was initially registered and investigated as an inquest.
Following the post-mortem examination, it was established that Beth Pieterse had been assaulted with a blunt object.
Additionally, cellphone footage captured by first responders was also used as evidence.
The charge was subsequently changed to murder, and Abraham Faro was arrested on 17 June 2022.
After a lengthy investigation and court process spanning six years, Faro was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
During the proceedings it emerged that Faro had lied to the police on numerous occasions and attempted to conceal the crime by cleaning the crime scene.
This conviction brings closure to one of the long-outstanding murder cases in the Sutherland area.
Namakwa District Commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews commended the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Barroleen Motha for her meticulous investigation that led to the successful conviction.
