MEC Bentley Vass, responsible for the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA) in the Northern Cape, accompanied by the Mayor of the Siyancuma Local Municipality, Councillor Patrick McKlein, and other Councillors, handed over houses to some of the beneficiaries of the Dalton 100 Housing Project, in Douglas, in the Siyancuma Local Municipality, in the Pixley Ka Seme District, today, 25 August 2025.

The Dalton Housing Project is part of the 1 Billion Rand Housing Project, launched by President Cyril Ramaphosa and Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul, in January 2024.

Engaging with the community of Dalton, in Douglas, MEC Vass said ‘’The Northern Cape Provincial Government is committed to eradicating the housing backlog in the province, through the building and handing over of houses in all the districts. We are aware that there are many areas within this municipality and throughout the province, where we must build houses to address the backlog. We continue to urge all appointed contractors in the province to deliver quality housing at a rapid pace to allow beneficiaries to receive their houses as per completion. This is also part of our strategy to curb vandalism’’.

Seventy-four-year-old, Tina Jonas, said she was very happy that government has delivered on their commitment to provide proper shelter for her and her family. “Words cannot express my immense gratitude to this government. I have a proper roof over my head and will be eternally grateful for this house. I will take good care of it and will leave it as legacy for my grandchildren”.

Furthermore, MEC Vass also delivered title deeds in Bongani, in the Siyancuma Local Municipality, as part of his visit.

“A title deed provides legal ownership of property and can be used as leverage for other economic benefits. The Department, working with all municipalities in the province, will be stepping up efforts to deliver available title deeds throughout the province’’, said MEC Vass.

The title deeds restoration programme is geared to ensuring that the government reaches out to the communities and housing beneficiaries to dispatch title deeds.
