Weekly Multi-Disciplinary High-Density Operation Shanela 2 Continues to Dismantle Criminality in the Northern Cape

In Kimberley 12 October 2025 The weekly multi-disciplinary high-density operation Shanela 2 continues to combat crime and maintain law and order in all five districts in the Northern Cape. The week long operations kickstarted on Monday, 06 October, until Sunday, 12 October 2025, and consisted of vehicle check points (VCPs) stop and search actions, foot and vehicle patrols, compliance inspections, drugs and other commodities smuggling. During roadblocks and VCPs across the province 3 230 vehicles and 7 194 persons were stopped and searched. A large quantity of alcoholic beverages were confiscated from unlicensed and non compliant liquor traders, while a significant quantity of drugs including dagga, suspected tik, Mandrax tablets, and cocaine, as well as firearms, ammunition and copper cables were seized during the operation. Compliance inspections were conducted in all five districts, during which, several second hand dealers, scrap yards, liquor outlets, formal and informal businesses were visited, and operating documents were checked for compliance. A total of 211 suspects were arrested for various crimes including, murder and attempted murder, rape, assault, burglary, illegal possession of firearms, malicious damage to property, illegal dealing in liquor, robbery, driving under the influence of alcohol, dealing in and possession of drugs, stocktheft, and contravention of Immigration Laws. The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape Leutenant General Koliswa Otola welcomes the contributions of all roleplayers in the efforts to dismantle all forms of criminality in the province. She reassured the community that operations will continue unabated throughout the Festive Season and beyond in order to eradicate priority crimes and ensure the safety and security of all inhabitants.
