State granted forfeiture order worth R49 500

Kimberley Division of the High Court granted the Hawks Priority Crime Specialised Investigation and National Prosecuting Authority‘s Asset Forfeiture Unit a forfeiture order amounting to R49 500 against Sephano Thumeng (36), who was found with uncut diamonds.

During April 2025, members of Port Nolloth SAPS received information about possible uncut diamonds that was kept at house in Lyfram.

The Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Thebe said a search and seizure application was granted by the court and an operation was conducted at the address during which a red plastic bag containing money and uncut diamonds was recovered.

Thumeng could not produce a permit or a reason for possession of the uncut diamonds. He was immediately arrested and the exhibits were taken for further probing.

The matter was referred to PCSI for investigation and later to AFU. Investigation established that the accused was not working and that he also has no permit to deal in diamonds.
