The Northern Cape Department of Education reminds parents who have not yet registered their children for space at public ordinary schools for the 2027 school academic year that they have only this week to do so.
The Online Learner Admission System for Grade R, 1 and Grade 8 closes on 29 May 2026 for parents/ legal guardians to secure a school.
To date, the Department has received a total of 21 070 applications from all five of its five Districts.
Parents are urged to ensure that they have access to active cellphone numbers, as these will be required for OTP (One-Time Pin) verification during the application process.
Learners currently attending a school that offers the next grade do not need to re-apply.
Parents of Grade 7 learners in one-school towns are still required to apply online, even if there is only one school available for selection.
Learners turning 6 years old in 2027 must apply for Grade R, while learners turning 7 years old in 2027 are required to apply for Grade 1.
Departmental spokesperson Geoffrey vd Merwe reminded that submission of an application to a school does not guarantee placement.
“Placement is subject to the availability of space at the school,” he said.
According to the department, it has already identified incomplete applications submitted by parents or guardians as one of the common challenges that may affect successful applications and placements.
Incorrect school selections during the application process; the use of inactive or incorrect cellphone numbers; and failure to upload all required supporting documents were also noted.
There has also been an increase in the number of Grade 7 learners who have not yet applied.
Parents will be informed via SMS on the status of their application from 31 July 2026.
The Online Admission System for all middle grade applications will be open from 1 September- 30 October 2026 on www.ncdoeadmissions.org or go to your nearest District office or walk-in centre to complete your application.
