Saps Recovers Suspected Stolen Goods At Dumping Site

Vital information provided by community members in Kathu led to the apprehension and arrest of two men aged 19 and 40 respectively and the recovery of suspected stolen property, with an estimated value of R100 000-00, at the Kathu dumping site on 25 May 2026.

Police spokesperson Lt Col Mosimaneotsile Letsapa said a team comprising of Kathu Vispol and Detective members operationalised information which led them to the Kathu dumping site at approximately 15:00.

He said the arrested suspects were believed to be linked to a housebreaking and theft case that was reported between the 22 and 23 May 2026.

“After receiving the information the team went to the dumping site, where they discovered suspected stolen with an estimated value of R100 000-00), which included laptops, a play station and several pairs of tekkies,” said Letsapa.

The Acting JTG District Commissioner, Brigadier Kenneth Baloyi commended the Kathu SAPS team and appreciated the public for their assistance by providing valuable information, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects and recovery of the stolen items.

The public are the eyes and ears of the police, and continued cooperation and assistance will squeeze the space for criminals to operate in the district
