STATE OF THE ART !XUNKWESA ECD OPENED

Platfontein community members brazed the cold weather to witness a historic moment of opening the first state of the art Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD).

The !Xunkwesa ECD was constructed by the Palms for Life Fund at the cost of R12.7 million.

  • There are 19 ECD Practitioners from the local community.
  • The Premier handed over R200000 towards the ECD’s nutrition programme
  • The center has been operating since last year September and boasts with these features
  • Can accommodate up to 160 children under the age of six.
  • It is fully furnished in line with the ECD norms.
  • It serve two nutritious meals per day to enrolled children
  • Will act as a cultural hub for the preservation and promotion of San languages and traditions
  • Has 4 stimulation rooms each equipped with 4 toilets, with reduced pot sizes for children. It also has a staff room, an office, an isolation room for sick children and ablution facilities for the staff.”

.Premier Zamani Saul and MEC  for Education officially opened the !Xunkwesa ECD on 22 July 2025.

The Northern Cape Provincial Government will continue to prioritise Early Childhood Development to improve access to Education.
