St Boniface Catholic Church prepares for Centenary Celebration

In preparation for the Centenary Celebration (100 years), St Boniface Catholic Church in Kimberley held a series of fund raising events starting with a Golf Day followed by a Gala dinner at Flamingo Casino on 3 October. A Jazz session was held on Saturday , 4 Octoober at the church back yard featuring a Marimba band, Mbombela Jazz band, Tuks and other performers.
The Centenary will be celebrated on 13 December 2025. at the church in Coreless Road, Kimberley.
The Gold Day was also to honour the legacy of the late Bishops Erwin Hecht and Abel Gabuza, started with breakfast. Participants were later pampered at the Spa situated at the Casino. More than 30 Golf enthusiasts took to the green, including the current Bishop for Kimberley Diocese, Duncan Tsoke, Parish Priests inlcuding Edward Tsungu, Victor Tlholo, Molefe Koloi and Sebogodi Jebetla, members of the Parish Executive Council accompanied by parishioners and esteemed golfers. There after prizes were awarded at the Barney Barnato, St Boniface Parish Priest Fr Norman Mosito was the Programme Director. A giant cake was cut as part of the festivities.
Amongst the dignitaries who attended the Gala Dinner were Bishop Duncan Tsoke , retired Archbishop Emiritus Jabulani Khumalo, Parish Priests who looked snazzy in black suits blended well with the guests. The programme also features an on-line auction items such as oil paintings by Gordon Mahgro, cutstom-made rugs from Turkey and holiday homes were for grabs.
In addressing the guests, 85 years old Archbishop Khumalo expressed pride to be a part of the Centenary celebration. He described the moment as a declaration of thanks giving and a reminder that God is in charge.
Parish Executive Chairperson, Tebogo Bonokwane anticipates the Centenary celebration to be a success, “taking into consideration that St Boniface church and the school, has touched a lot of lives in Galeshewe, both catholics and non-catholics,” he remarked.
Appreciation was directed to sponsors, such as Telkom, Suzuki, PNA, Volkswagen, Ford, Nare Boutique Hotel and Dioceses of Pretoria for their generous contribution.
Fr Mosito expressed his greatest appreciation to the congregants for making the event possible and successful. “This day is about paving a way towards the Centenary celebration. It was not easy, but I believe that we will make it as St Boniface Parish because we are number one,” said Mosito.
The pre-centenary celebrations also served as an opportunity for alumnis to reconnect and reminisced about the good old days.
