Hopetown GBVF accused receive 5 years imprisonment for assault

The Hopetown Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a 37 year old man to 5-years imprisonment for assaulting his 56-year-old wife on 15 November 2025 in Hopetown.
The accused was additionally declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The victim and the accused were visiting a friend and thereafter, whereby the victim left and went to sleep.
The accused later arrived home and started insulting the victim, resulting in the physical assaulting the victim. The victim, however failed to defend herself and the accused overpowered her.
After the ordeal, the victim reported the matter to the police and subsequently a case was open and the accused arrested.
The docket was assigned to Detective Constable Retshidisitswe Faniso of the Hopetown SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for investigation.
Detective Constable Faniso successfully opposed bail and the accused remained in custody until the finalisation of the case.
The Pixley Ka Seme District Police Management commended Detective Constable Retshidisitswe Faniso for her meticulous investigation that led to a gender-based violence and femicide accused behind bars.
