Missing person sought in KimberleyStaff Reporter

The Kimberley Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is appealing to the public for assistance in locating 64-year-old Hendrick “Choko” van Eck, who reportedly went missing from Robert Sobukwe Hospital on Sunday, 23 August 2026.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Litabe said Van Eck is originally from Ritchie, near Kimberley.
“He is slender in build and approximately 1.65 metres tall, and was allegedly wearing a hospital gown when he was last seen,” said Litabe.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is requested to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Moagi Mokatsane, on 082 302 0407.
Alternatively, members of the public can contact the SAPS Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS App to provide information that may assist the police in locating the missing person.
The public is reminded that there is no waiting period to report a person missing.
