The Sol Plaatje Municipality has suspended refuse collection scheduled for Thursday today, 8 October 2026, in all areas after one of its truck drivers allegedly suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened on Hulana Street, Galeshewe, at the end of his shift.
This is to allow the rest of the Cleansing Unit the opportunity to pay their respects to their colleague, who will be laid to rest in accordance with Muslim rites.
Municipal Spokesperson Thabo Mothibi said the Unit will also lay another colleague and a compactor truck driver to rest on Saturday.
“As a result, no catch-up collection will be activated on Saturday,: said Mothibi.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and trust that the prevailing circumstances will meet residents’ understanding during this difficult time.”
