SAPS commend the public for peaceful conduct during march

The Chairperson of the Northern Cape Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (PROVJOINTS), Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, extends sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, communities, organisers, law enforcement agencies and members of the public for their cooperation and responsible conduct during the anti-illegal foreign migration marches held across the province.

The peaceful manner in which the marches were conducted is a clear demonstration that constitutional rights can be exercised responsibly while maintaining public order and respecting the rights of others.

The integrated operational planning and coordinated deployment of members from the South African Police Service, traffic authorities, municipal law enforcement, emergency services and other security partners ensured that all identified gatherings were effectively monitored and policed.

Although a few isolated incidents were reported during the course of the operations, these were swiftly addressed by law enforcement agencies. All interventions were carried out professionally, effectively and within the confines of the Constitution and the laws of the Republic of South Africa, ensuring that public safety and order were maintained at all times.

Lieutenant General Otola commended all members deployed during the operation for their discipline, professionalism and commitment to safeguarding communities while protecting the constitutional rights of every person.

“The success of these operations reflects the value of partnership between government, law enforcement, community structures, organisers and the public. We thank everyone who played a role in ensuring that the marches remained peaceful and orderly.

We also reaffirm our commitment to enforcing the law without fear, favour or prejudice, while respecting the rights afforded to all people under the Constitution,” said Lieutenant General Otola.

PROVJOINTS remains committed to maintaining peace, stability and public safety throughout the Northern Cape and will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.
