Fifteen years jail term for Klipfontein murder

A 25-year-old man, Juandre Smith has been sentenced to 15 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of  39-year-old Quinton Makatees in the Garies Regional Court.

The accused was convicted on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, for an incident that occurred on 26 June 2024.

 

Investigations revealed that the victim and the accused had been drinking together at a residence in Smith’s location when an argument broke out. The victim left to return home, but the accused followed him and fatally stabbed him with a screwdriver.

The accused was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with murder.

The case was thoroughly investigated by Detective Sergeant Garth Klaase and successfully prosecuted by Mr. Basil Kock.

 

Namakwa District Commissioner Brigadier Schalk Andrews commended Sergeant Klaase and Mr. Kock for their outstanding efforts in ensuring justice for the victim and his family.

This conviction underscores the SAPS’s commitment to pursuing justice for victims of violent crime and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. End
