Dept of Education hosts Teachers Awards

The Northern Cape Department of Education held the Provincial Teachers’ Awards in Kimberley on 28 August 2025.
The prestigious event was attended by among others, Newrene Klaaste Speaker for the Northern Cape Legislature, Dipuo Peters Speaker for Sol Plaatje Municipality, members from various teachers’ unions, Abraham Vosloo MEC for Education and HODs from the Districts in the Province.
Wearing his Kimberley Boys High School uniform, Vosloo highlighted the purpse of “Love Your School” campaign, a need for learners and Teachers to take pride in their school. He reiterated that this was about remembrance, renewal and respect for the teachers. He applauded Teachers for changing the lives of learners despite the circumstances under which they work.
Llewellyn Aiken, Naptosa Provincial Chairperson, reiterated their support and the need to appreciate educators. “This ceremony is not just about awards, it is about acknowledging those who commit to the success of every learner,” he said.
For 2025, 510 nominations were submitted compared to 90 nominations in 2024.
Teachers were awarded with cash prizes, tablets, modems with data and other goodies from: The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, MTN and Vodacom.
The categories included, best Accounting Teacher, Excellency in Secondary School Leadership which went to Michael Ludig from Kimberley Technical High. Excellent Teaching in Physical Science went to Peteronella Makhata of Vuyolewethu High School.
Zolani Jack and Thabo Moilwa from Kimberley Boys High School both ranked third place in Mathematics and Technoloty, said they were happy and vowed to encourage their 42 colleagues to enter next year.
Primary school teachers were also awarded including, Boitumelo Morolong, from St Peter’s Primary, for Excellence in Teaching Social Sciences in Senior Phase.
The winners will represent the Province at the National Teachers Awards to be held in October in Gauteng.
Guest were entertained with music by leaners from Thabane and Tetlanyo High School
