A 41-year-old male and a 23-year-old female are expected to appear in court for drug related charges following their arrest in Kenhardt on Friday 03 July 2026.

The suspects were found in possession of suspected crystal meth with an estimated street value of R50 000-00, including cash believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities.

The arrest was due to swift response by the Kenhart SAPS when they spotted a vehicle suspected of being used in the distribution of drugs on the outskirts of the town at approximately 19:00.

Police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said the members were conducting crime prevention patrols on the specific evening.

According to Ehlers, as vehicle entered the town, police attempted to stop the Renault Megane but the driver failed to comply and sped off, prompting a high-speed pursuit.

“During the chase, police observed the passenger throwing objects out of the vehicle’s window.

“When the suspect vehicle eventually came to a stop, the male driver attempted to flee on foot and reportedly discarded additional items before being apprehended,” said Ehlers.

“With the assistance of additional members, both suspects were successfully arrested, as well as the vehicle, was also seized.”

The ZF Mgcawu District Commissioner, Major General Monica Sebili, commended the members for their vigilance and swift action, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the seizure of the drugs.

She assured the community that the fight against drug-related crime remains a policing priority.
