Suspected Drug Dealer treated for ingested drugs, after fearing police

A 28-year-old male suspected drug dealer had to be rushed to hospital for medical treatment after he reportedly ingested some of the suspected drugs, which he was found in possession of during a high-visibility patrols in Kimberley on Friday 10 July 2026.
The suspect was pounced on by vigilant members consisting of Provincial Operational Response Services, the Frances Baard District Task Team and the Kimberley Flying Squad, who spotted his Toyota Yaris driving in the CBD at approximately 22:00 and stopped it for search.
Police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said, suspected Khat with an estimated street value of R3 990.00, including a substantial amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities was found in his possession.
“He was arrested and charged accordingly before being rushed to hospital,” said Ehlers.
Ehlers vowed that operations conducted under the auspices of Operation Shanela II will continue unabated as the South African Police Service remains committed to addressing serious and violent crime throughout the province.
