Incarcerated To 3 Years Imprisonment For Housebreaking And Theft
The swift response to a housebreaking and theft complaint in New Park, Douglas by police on Saturday, 11 October 2025, led to the successful apprehension of the accused, recovery of the stolen items and the conviction of the accused. On Saturday, 11 October 2025 at 12:30, a 33-year-old complainant left her house and securely closed the windows and locked the doors. At 21:00, when she returned, she noticed that her house has been broken into and found her TV, a wheelbarrow, groceries and other belongings with a total value of R14-620-00 were stolen. She immediately alerted the police who swiftly responded and follow up on the wheelbarrow tracks to a house in New Park, Bongani in Douglas. Police then entered the house under Section 22 of the South African Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) 51 of 1977. During the search, police found all the stolen property on the premises that were subsequently positively identified by the complainant. The accused, Daniel Kobedi (42) was arrested and linked to the housebreaking and theft case. On Wednesday, 6 May 2026, Kobedi pleaded guilty in the Douglas Magistrates Court and was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment, he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. The District Commissioner of Pixley Ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe applauded the collaboration between Visible Policing and Detectives during the preliminary investigations that led to the recovery of all stolen items and the apprehension of the accused. She further commended Detective Constable Berto Smith of Douglas Detectives for his professional conduct during the investigation and the trial with the evidence he presented in court, resulting in the successful conviction.
