Kimberley Rape Accused Incarcerated For a Lengthy Period
The SAPS Provincial Management in the Northern Cape welcomed the conviction and sentence handed down in the Kimberley High Court to 45-year-old Douglas Mthukwane on Friday, 10 April 2026. The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Shaniel Antonie of the Kimberley Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was praised for her diligent investigation and determination in ensuring the successful incarceration of the accused. Mthukwane was sentenced on multiple counts of rape, count one he received 25 years imprisonment, count two he received 15 years imprisonment, count three he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and count four also to 15 years imprisonment. Counts two, three and four will run concurrently. Additionally the court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be to be recorded in the National Register for Sex Offenders. His raping spree spanned over a period of three years , between 2016 and 2019. During this period he was accused of raping four victims between the ages of 15 and 33 years old in the Beaconsfield area in Kimberley. He was arrested, however he was released on bail when he committed the crimes. In 2025, the accused was arrested for rape and remained in custody until his sentencing. The police in the Northern Cape remains committed in policing and investigating crimes against women and children and ensure that perpatrators committing these heinous crimes are brought to book.
