handover Executive Mayor joins Minister in handing over a Human Rights Day multi-purpose sport court

In commemorating Human Rights Day, Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Executive Mayor Cllr Martha Bartlett accompanied Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, in handing over a multipurpose sport court to Roodepan High School worth R2.1 million.

” This has been a defining handover, signifying our long held battle cry and fundamental Human Rights.  The doors of learning and culture shall be opened and, when they open, our children shall have access to sport facilities.   We have also declared that “A Child in Sport Is a Child out of Court,” said the Executive Mayor in her vote of thanks.

While NC Premier Zamani Saul, President of the country Cyril Ramaphosa, MEC Limakatso Koloi joined by Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Executive Mayor and Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie went to Retlameleng School, a school for Leaners with Physically Disabilities, Visual and Hearing Impairment to hand over a brand new multifaceted sports facility.

In response to the plight of the school and problems, such as the absence of hostels which would reduce tardiness among learners, making learning time more effective.  The President promised to build the school a hostel facility.  “This will also make the school accessible to learners residing outside of Kimberley”, he said.

The main celebration for Human Rights Day was held at AR Abass Stadium.

All the dignitaries went on to join in the last leg of the days itinerary, the national Human Rights Day event at A.R Abass Stadium in Florianville.
