NORTHERN CAPE PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER LEADS PRAYER DAY FOR POLICE SAFETY
The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, led a Prayer Service at the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Kimberley on Thursday, 25 September 2025.
The service was attended by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Johnny Besnaar, the Frances Baard Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, Station Commanders from the greater Kimberley area, officers and members from various provincial components and units, as well as religious leaders from different faith-based fraternities and representatives of community policing structures.
The programme that was directed by Chaplain CT Shupinyaneng, began with interfaith prayers dedicated to the safety of the men and women in blue, followed by uplifting songs of praise led by the Provincial SAPS Band.
Colonel (Rev) IJ Pudule delivered the welcoming address under the theme “On Duty with God’s Strength.”
He emphasised the importance of seeking divine protection, fostering teamwork, and supporting one another as members continue to face dangers in the execution of their duties.
“The safety of SAPS members must not only be observed during September, which is dedicated to police safety, but beyond,” Pudule urged.
The Northern Cape Provincial Choir enriched the service with joyous hymns, after which Chaplain RL Mathane led a session of intercessory prayer.
Religious leaders offered prayers dedicated to SAPS management, the prevention of police killings, mental health and well-being, and the fight against gender-based violence.
A candle-lighting ceremony, facilitated by Chaplain Moseki, symbolised God’s light and protection over SAPS members who risk their lives daily to protect the people of South Africa.
Bishop Badenhorst delivered the sermon, sharing a profound message centred on the protection of SAPS members.
Lieutenant General Otola delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of integrity, accountability, and mutual support.
“In times of adversity, God’s power becomes our strength,” said Otola.
She further urged employees to refrain from criminality, particularly corruption, and to remain safety-conscious while serving with integrity.
The spiritually uplifting programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Brigadier Mtongana and a closing prayer by Chaplain Geco.
